Frequently asked questions about moving to a new iPhone, handing cards to others, and backups.
If the new iPhone uses the same Apple Account, use an iCloud backup.
iCloud can take a while to catch up. If the backup doesn't appear right away, wait a bit and try again.
Use Exchange cards. You hand only the cards you choose, directly to a person nearby. Cards travel straight between the two iPhones — nothing is sent over the internet or to any cloud.
You can open it from Settings > Move & Transfer Cards, or from the quick access row on the search screen.
Yes — the app works on each iPhone. Cards are stored per device, and changes on one iPhone are not applied to the other automatically.
To have the same cards on another iPhone, create a backup and restore it there. After that, changes are saved separately on each iPhone.
They prepare you for switching iPhones, reinstalling the app, and loss or damage. Your cards are stored in iCloud and can be restored later.
You create manual backups yourself whenever you need one. Right before switching iPhones, create a fresh manual backup.
With Pro you can turn on automatic backups. iOS runs them when your cards have changed and the device conditions allow. They are not guaranteed to run at a fixed time every day.
The cards on that iPhone are replaced entirely with the backup contents (a replacement, not an add or a merge).
If you want to keep the current state too, create a backup before restoring — you can return to it later.
On your iPhone, check Settings > your name > iCloud and make sure iCloud Drive is turned on.
Passes in Apple Wallet are managed separately from your card backup. After restoring, check the Apple Wallet connection status inside the app.
